My goal for the school year is to help each student grow academically and socially in a warm, creative, and safe environment - our classroom. Second grade is a year to develop and learn many new skills and to explore the world around us. The world for these children is moving beyond self and immediate family, and extending to include their school family and parish community. Each of us have different opinions, ideas, needs, and strengths; and the students need to remember to be kind, encouraging, and supportive of one another. A very important part of this is our religion curriculum - as the students will be prepared for the sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. By receiving these two sacraments, it is my hope that every child in my class will learn to respect others and feel respected by others, which will help create a positive learning experience in our classroom!
I believe that good communication and a team effort between teacher and parents leads to success for the students both in school and at home. Therefore, if you need to contact me, please either send a note with your child, contact the school office, or use my e-mail address and I will respond as soon as I can. If you use my e-mail, please know that it will not be possible for me to check my e-mails during the school day. If your message needs an immediate response, please contact the school office and someone will give your message to me promptly.
The school phone number is 773-283-2311.
My NEW e-mail address is [email protected]
Thank you for your support and cooperation.
Miss Prokuski
Meet Miss Prokuski
I graduated from Northeastern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and Special Education-Learning Disabilities in 1982, with endorsements in Social Science and Learning Behavior Specialist.
This is my 39th year of teaching. I have been teaching at St. Constance School for over 30 years - most of it in 2nd grade, but also taught 3rd grade for several years. I am the coordinator for two Reading Programs - Book-It/Pizza Hut and Read To Succeed/Great America; and I am also in charge of the Zaner-Bloser Handwriting Program that holds a contest every year for students all across America. St. Constance has had 3 Grand National Handwriting Champions in 2nd grade and a National Handwriting Champion in the 6th grade. In the summer of 2018, I had the privilege of reviewing the drafts for the new Catholic Practice Masters booklets for the Zaner-Bloser Handwriting Company, for Grades K - 3 (2020 Edition). In April of 2019, I was honored to be asked to work as a Teacher Ambassador for Zaner-Bloser at the NCEA Convention held in Chicago.
In previous years, I have had the pleasure of being nominated for several teaching awards - Heart of the School (given by the Archdiocese of Chicago), Golden Apple Award , HSA Student's Choice Award, and Disney's American Teacher Award. I was also selected to be placed in several editions of Who's Who Among American Teachers (2000, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007).
However, I am most honored to be able to prepare the second graders for two important sacraments - First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. These are two very special and precious moments that I share with my students, which they will remember and hold close in their hearts forever.
